Your WEA guides will always choose the safest and most enjoyable option for the group.DAY 1 — SATURDAY 8 MAYSPEERS POINT TO THE WARRUMBUNGLESGoulds Circuit, Febar Tor & Macha Tor | Approx. 8 km | Grade 3 | 3–4 hoursOur adventure begins bright and early at Speers Point. We’ll meet at 6:00am, load our gear and depart at 6:30am in our private group transport for the journey west.We’ll stop along the way for coffee and breakfast before continuing to Coonabarabran, where we’ll enjoy lunch together before heading into Warrumbungle National Park.Then it’s boots on!Goulds Circuit is a brilliant introduction to the extraordinary volcanic landscape of the Warrumbungles. The track follows Spirey Creek before climbing through dry woodland towards Febar Tor, where we’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of Belougery Spire, the Breadknife and Bluff Mountain.From here, we’ll continue towards Macha Tor. The final ascent involves a steep, near-vertical and exposed rock scramble and is recommended for experienced hikers. Your WEA guides will assess the conditions and group on the day before making the final decision to summit Macha Tor.After our first taste of the Warrumbungles, we’ll check into Warrumbungles Mountain Motel, settle in and enjoy an easy dinner together.Accommodation: Warrumbungles Mountain Motel, twin shareMeals: DinnerBreakfast, coffee and lunch en route are at your own expense.DAY 2 — SUNDAY 9 MAYBREADKNIFE, GRAND HIGH TOPS & BLUFF MOUNTAINApprox. 15.5–17 km | Grade 4 | Approx. 1,065 m ascent | 7–8 hoursToday is one of the big ones — and one of the great bushwalking days in New South Wales.Following Spirey Creek, we’ll climb towards the dramatic formations of Belougery Spire, Bress Peak, Crater Bluff and the famous Breadknife.A steep ascent brings us to Grand High Tops, where the views across this ancient volcanic landscape are simply incredible. From here, we continue towards Dows Camp and the immense cliff face of Bluff Mountain.The final summit trail becomes rougher and less distinct as it climbs across rocky outcrops and mountain heath. At the top, we’ll stop for our trail lunch and take in the views over Mount Exmouth, Tonduron Spire, Mount Naman, Bluff Pyramid and the western plains.We’ll return via Ogma Gap and West Spirey Creek before heading back to the motel for showers, a well-earned drink and our relaxed group BBQ.Accommodation: Warrumbungles Mountain Motel, twin shareMeals: Breakfast, trail lunch and dinnerDAY 3 — MONDAY 10 MAYBELOUGERY SPLIT ROCK, FANS HORIZON & THE NIGHT SKYApprox. 8.2 km combined | Grades 3 & 4After yesterday’s big summit day, today gives us two shorter walks — although there are still plenty of hills and steps to keep those legs working!We’ll begin with Belougery Split Rock, one of the park’s distinctive ancient lava domes. The rough Grade 4 trail winds through dry woodland before a rocky final summit approach. From the top, we’ll be rewarded with beautiful views over the central Warrumbungles.After a break, we’ll take on Fans Horizon. It might be short, but don’t be fooled — this steep track climbs more than 1,000 steps through eucalypt forest to an exposed lookout on Balgatan Mountain.From the sandstone cliffs, we’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Breadknife, Belougery Spire and Crater Bluff.Back at the motel, there’ll be time to shower, put the feet up and enjoy dinner before another highlight of our adventure — a private evening with Donna the Astronomer.Under some of Australia’s darkest skies, Donna will introduce us to the wonders of the southern night sky. The exact location and program will be confirmed closer to our adventure and is weather dependent.Accommodation: Warrumbungles Mountain Motel, twin shareMeals: Breakfast, trail lunch and dinnerDAY 4 — TUESDAY 11 MAYMOUNT EXMOUTH VIA CATHEDRAL ARCHApprox. 17–17.5 km | Grade 4 | Approx. 1,096 m ascent | 6–8 hoursToday we tackle another of the Warrumbungles’ big summit walks — Mount Exmouth, the highest peak in the Warrumbungle Range at 1,206 metres.Our route takes us through varied woodland and the Burbie and Danu Gap area, passing the unusual volcanic formations of Cathedral Rock and Cathedral Arch along the way.The final ascent takes us through increasingly sparse mountain vegetation towards the summit. From the top, we’ll have sweeping views across the ancient volcanic landscape, Grand High Tops, Bluff Mountain and the distant western plains.This is another long, rugged day requiring strong fitness and careful footing, but the views and sense of achievement make every step worthwhile.Tonight it’s time to swap the hiking gear for our comfiest clothes for our pizza-and-PJs farewell night. There’ll be Warrumbungles trivia, plenty of laughs and a few WEA surprises as we celebrate everything we’ve achieved over the past four days.Accommodation: Warrumbungles Mountain Motel, twin shareMeals: Breakfast, trail lunch and dinnerDAY 5 — WEDNESDAY 12 MAYONE LAST WALK, WINERY LUNCH & HOMEApprox. 3–5 km planned | Grade 3We’re not quite finished yet!After breakfast, we’ll pack our bags and head out for one final morning exploring the Warrumbungles on foot.Our morning will include the beautiful Wambelong Nature Walk, following Wambelong Creek through a sheltered gorge beneath the park’s volcanic peaks. We’ll extend our morning walking with an additional nearby section or short trail, aiming for approximately 3–5 km in total before we farewell the Warrumbungles.It’s a gentler finish after our two big summit days and a lovely opportunity to enjoy the landscape one last time, keeping an eye out for kangaroos, emus, parrots and other local wildlife along the way.Then there’s one final WEA treat.We’ll begin our journey home and stop at Vines at Hollydene for an included long winery lunch — the perfect place to raise a glass, rest those hiking legs and celebrate what we’ve achieved together.After lunch, we’ll continue back to Speers Point, arriving at approximately 5:00pm, traffic and conditions permitting.Expect tired legs, full hearts and plenty of stories from a cracking five days in the Warrumbungles.Meals: Breakfast and long winery lunch
