Let’s talk about something we all deal with but don’t always discuss—going to the toilet in the great outdoors. Ok, it is actually something we discuss ALOT on the trail!
At Women Embrace Adventure, we’re all about embracing the wild: sunrises on clifftops, misty bush trails, kayaking in hidden bays. But with that freedom comes the occasional reality check—there may not always be a flushable loo in sight!
That’s why we recommend every adventurer pack a small, personal toilet kit. It’s simple, practical, and makes a world of difference when nature calls.
What to Pack in Your Personal Toilet Kit:
Here’s what we recommend keeping in your kit to stay comfortable, clean, and environmentally responsible:
• Small Ziplock Bag or Waterproof Pouch: This will be your pack-out bag for used toilet paper—yes, we’re taking it all with us!
• Toilet Paper or Tissues: Compact and easy to store; bring just enough for yourself.
• Reusable Pee Cloth (optional): Think of this as your trail-friendly hanky for #1's. Great for reducing TP use.
• Hand Sanitiser: Quick and easy hygiene without water.
• Wipes (Biodegradable if possible): For a fresh feeling, but remember, they need to be packed out too.
• Mini Trowel (optional): For places where we dig small holes to follow Leave No Trace guidelines. This depends on the location, so check with us if you’re unsure!
• Toiletry Bag or Small Dry Bag: To keep everything contained and odour-free in your pack.
• Personal sanitary items: yep again, used items need to be taken out with you.
Why You’ll Love Having Your Own Kit:
1. Leave No Trace: We’re committed to preserving the beauty of nature. Carrying out used toilet paper ensures we’re leaving our campsites and trails as pristine as we found them.
2. Comfort & Preparedness: Having your kit means you’re prepared no matter where nature calls. No more scrambling to borrow supplies!
3. Less Environmental Impact: By being mindful, we reduce waste and our footprint on the places we explore.
Having a toilet kit isn’t just about convenience—it’s about respect—respect for nature, for your fellow adventurers, and for yourself. It might not be glamorous, but it’s practical, empowering, and makes every experience on the trail just that little bit easier.
So next time you pack for a WEA adventure, don’t forget your toilet kit. Your future self (and your trail mates) will thank you!
With love from the trail,
Kat & Sharon
