About Embrace Hiking Fitness:

Do you love to walk or hike? Can you hike 5 - 10kms without too much trouble but want to be have the fitness to enjoy longer hikes? Then Embrace Hike Fitness is for you. Yes, we know the best way to prepare for a long hike is… wait for it… to hike a lot. But it is also important to add in some functional strength training into your routine and what better way than with a bunch of fun loving Women who Embrace Adventure.

Why Is functional strength training important for hiking? A couple of reasons:

You'll have more fun: When you're in shape for hiking, you'll feel strong and be able to move more swiftly, which will allow you to enjoy the beautiful sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors rather than suffering through your hike or walk.

You'll put less strain on your body: When your muscles, ligaments and tendons are strong and well-tuned, they'll be ready for all aspects of hiking from steep inclines, unsteady trails, steps and your body will be able to respond more effectively if you stumble or slip on the varied terrain of the trail.

Our Embrace Hike Fitness is an hour long session lead by the beautiful Shannon, a qualified Personal trainer who specialises in strength training for women. The Session will Incorporate Functional movements to mimic the movement patterns you'll encounter while hiking. Performing theses functional movements with body weight as well as weights in a controlled setting allows your joints to move through their full range of motion, building strength and stability.

There are 3 main elements we will work on during the Embrace Hike Fitness sessions:

1 - Increasing Leg Strength and Endurance

The stronger your legs are, the easier it's going to be to stride uphill while hiking. We will work on Exercises that isolate each leg, like lunges and step ups to build up the major muscles used while hiking like glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps.

2 - Develop Core Strength

All movement originates from the core, which includes all the muscles of the hips, upper legs and waist. A strong core promotes proper posture, improves breathing, and reduces the risk of ankle sprains and knee pain. When you've got any amount of weight on your frame, or when you're covering uneven terrain and need to keep your body stable, there's no question that core strength is important. A strong core helps you maintain your posture and maintain stability while hiking.

3 - Improve Balance

While hiking you encounter creek crossings, tricky downhill terrain and rock hopping. You may also need to accurately judge the distance between rocks if you're walking on them and take uneven steps with both legs. To be able to do this with out to much difficulty you need good balance.

Meeting point: Speers Point Park. Meet at carpark opposite Macquarie Field (from Speers point roundabout turn into Creek Reserve Road, take first left into Creek Reserve Road, drive about 300 meters to carpark on right) Look for the Women Embrace Adventure banner on the right. There is plenty of car parking.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How fit do I need to be? This Fitness class is for all fitness levels. The personal Trainer will be able to adapt all exercises and activities to suit your fitness level.

What if I don't hike, can I still attend? Absolutely! Although this session is built to help increase Hiking Fitness it is a great session for anyone wanting to add some functional strength training into their routine. You will be worked according to your fitness level and our qualified Personal Trainer will ensure you get a fantastic total body workout.

Do I need to bring anything with me? Yes, please come wearing comfortable active wear including joggers. Also bring a water bottle and a towel to place on grass to do exercises and stretches on.

What if I don’t have anyone to go with? No problem at all, you will have the Personal Trainer as well as a Women Embrace Adventure host there to make sure you feel comfortable and meet everybody before Strat the session.
