Embrace Cambodia  November 30 -December 15

Women's Cultural & Volunteer Adventure to Cambodia

2018 saw a group of women travel to Cambodia for our first Women embrace Adventure Overseas Adventure. It was such a life-changing trip for all involved we went again in 2019...it was 'same, same'...but so different, long story short we loved it even more so are going again in 2020!

Women Embrace Adventure has partnered with the charitable organization, Restore One, to bring you this women’s only, fully guided Cultural and Volunteer trip of a lifetime to Cambodia.

Restore One Embrace Escapees

Zieta shares her expereince from WEA Cambodia Trip 2018

Our Goal

Our goal in 2020  is to raise funds to help the Restore One Charity build much-needed toilets/plumbing pay teacher wages at their school in the Kampong Thom Province.  We're dedicated to bringing a team of women together to make this happen!   Whether travelling with a friend, a group or on your own, we give you the opportunity to see the real Cambodia in a supported, caring environment.  You'll get to make a big difference and see where your fundraising dollars are going by volunteering on various projects within the village.

My philosophy is that everyone has something to give. Our trips enrich the lives of everyone involved, from the volunteers to the people we help. It's truly inspiring to be a part of it.

Adventure Highlights

Angkor Wat Archeological Park

Home to world-famous Angkor Wat, this UNESCO heritage site stretches across more than 400 kilometres squared and contains hundreds of temples and structures dating back to the Khmer Empire era. The most popular are Angkor Wat, Bayon and its multiple faces and root-riddled Ta Prohm, which was the location for parts of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie.

Village Sleep Out

This is one of the most memorable days of the whole trip! It is an experience that is truly once in a lifetime. Staying in a local village is amazing and life-changing.  What you will take home is not only an appreciation of your bed and bathroom facilities but an appreciation of community and village life. This is where you get to communicate without speaking!   As part of a  team, you will be allocated local homes in the village to stay overnight, visit the local market, help prepare an evening meal over an open fire and really immerse yourself in Cambodian family life. The following day is the last day in the village, so you say goodbye to your new family and head up to Siem Reap. What a contrast awaits you!

Restaurants and Food

Food! Truth be told, it really is our number one passion!  Tanya, our Restore One guide and guru, let slip that this is really a 'foodies trip' with a cultural twist and we were hooked.  A lot of the restaurants we visit are part of a charity or social enterprise. Tanya from Restore One calls it “eating with justice”.   What is spent,  goes on giving something much bigger, it goes toward giving to the local community.  We look forward to sharing what these places stand for and what they support while enjoying a fabulous meal, a lot of which are vegetarian but offer some western style food. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The Killing Fields and S21 Memorial

To begin your trip, we take you to where the genocide of Cambodia is remembered. These places give you an understanding of the history of Cambodia and the subsequent poverty that hit. These are emotional places but an essential visit to put everything else in perspective that you see on your trip. (Our village is surrounded by killing fields as well).  You will forever appreciate how extraordinary the always smiling Cambodian people really are.

Building Project

One of many amazing volunteer options during our trip.  Whether you are building at the school or a home for a family, all you need is a good attitude to learn :) Most of the building is with just a hammer and nail.  A lot of people have gone ahead of you with no previous building experience and produced something beautiful. So, turn up with your hat, closed shoes, water bottle and a great attitude. When you leave the village, you'll have left something that lasts and something that will truly change the lives of those that receive. While the project is being carried out during your stay, you get to chat with the villagers and see what their lives are like. If you choose to, this experience can give you lessons that are so big that they will be with you for the rest of your life.

What Past Travelers Have to Say.....

"What can I say except a heartfelt massive thank you to Sharon, Katrina, Sokhun, Lynita, Tanya, Kimlang, Restore One Charity, Women Embrace Adventure & to the 13 other lovely ladies who made this trip so memorable. Together we have raised $20,000 & this will change lives. This trip has taught me that the world over we aren’t so different, more like same-same. We all want to be healthy, loved, educated, have clean water, fresh food to eat, a safe place to live, have a dream or goal & be the best version of ourselves. Cambodia has been absolutely amazing, simply incredible & life-changing. It has shown me what is happening here, empowering ppl & moving forward to make life better now & for future generations. It is so awesome to see & witness first hand. Helping others feels like such a small thing to do in the big scheme of things, but it is like a ripple effect & I know we have helped many here & that feels so great & very rewarding. Never give up, never stop learning, inspire others, be generous & help others. I thank you so very much & am so grateful. Cambodia opens your eyes, touches your heart & makes for an unforgettable experience. Thanking you!"-LISA CHAWNER 2019

"What did I know about Cambodia before this trip? Well not much... I had heard of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot but they were just historical names from a place I had never paid much attention too.
Cambodia had never been on my travel radar as a place I wanted to visit, but after participating in several adventures with Katrina and Sharon I couldn’t pass this up as a way to step out of my comfort zone and at the same time raise much-needed funds for the Restore One School.
Little did I know what imprint this trip would have on my heart and soul. Every day was filled with challenges and highlights, so many in fact that I can’t even begin to single out which were the best or hardest.
Cambodia is an assault to your senses. The smells, sounds and sights are intoxicating and sometimes overwhelming. During this trip, you are thrust into the history of what the Cambodian people went through and it makes your heartache in ways you cannot imagine. This experience pushes you out of your comfort zone and sometimes past it but at the same time you feel safe and secure because of the support and friendship of Katrina, Sharon, your fellow travelling companions the most amazing Restore One team.
Nothing will prepare you for this adventure but nothing can replace or replicate the cherished memories I now take with me for the rest of my life. I am so grateful to Women Embrace Adventure for enabling me to experience this opportunity and I am a better person because of it."-DEBBIE WINARDI 2019

"I embarked on a 2 week trip of a lifetime to Cambodia with Katrina and Sharon from Women Embrace Adventure and 14 other women. The trip was meticulously planned from start to finish. We didn’t have to give our accommodation or food a second thought as this was all arranged by Women Embrace Adventure. We were completely immersed into the Cambodian culture by being educated on the history of the country early on in our visit and subsequently shown how Cambodia is recovering from the atrocities that have occurred to their people and their country. We visited many of Cambodia’s ‘must-see’ landmarks and we also were also shown how the local Cambodian people affiliated with the charity, Restore One, are educated and equipped with tools to allow them to make a living without the threat of exploitation. We also visited and worked at a local high school in one of the most impoverished communities within Cambodia and were able to see how education is changing lives. I came away from this trip with an enormous sense of gratitude that I was fortunate enough to share such a life-changing adventure with a group of likeminded awesome women. I would highly recommend Women Embrace Adventure to anyone that is considering a trip to Cambodia, it was by far the best travel experience I’ve ever had." - DANIELLE MIZZI 2018

"Literally one of the best adventures of my life! So much fun and laughter ❤️" - NAT HELLYER 2018

"I recently travelled to Cambodia with WEA, I have to say every part of the trip was very well organised.  As a busy mother who works full-time, it was really great for me to be able to turn up at the airport with my passport and visa and know that all the rest was taken care of.  Every day was well planned, there was still free time to do what we wanted, but the meals were delicious and organised as were all transport and accommodation arrangements.  I travelled on my own and was paired up with a terrific roommate and the WEA hosts were always around to ensure everyone was having a good time.

This particular trip had a volunteering element and most activities we did had a social justice connection making it a challenging, confronting, rewarding and amazing holiday.  I would highly recommend WEA to other females either travelling on their own or with friends."  - JODIE DELL 2018

"A life-changing experience that fills your heart with happiness, appreciation and the joy of being able to give back. This adventure with a group of unknown women ended with new beautiful friendships. Many opportunities were given for you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the ability to empower oneself. We only need to start a change with one thing. That could be just you deciding to sign up for the 2020 Cambodian Adventure. Do it you won’t regret it!"- MICHELLE JOESTER 2019
