Embrace Cambodia  October 26-November 10  2019

Women's Cultural & Volunteer Adventure to Cambodia

November 2018 saw a group of women travel to Cambodia for our first Women embrace Adventure overseas adventure. It was such a life-changing trip for all involved that we've decided to do it all again in 2019.

Women Embrace Adventure has partnered with the charitable organization, Restore One, to bring you this women’s only, fully guided Cultural and Volunteer trip of a lifetime to Cambodia.

Our Goal

Our goal in 2019  is to raise funds to help Restore One build a year 12 classroom in Kampong Thom Province.  We're dedicated to bringing a team of women together to make this happen!   Whether travelling with a friend, a group or on your own, we give you the opportunity to see the real Cambodia in a supported, caring environment.  You'll get to make a big difference and see where your fundraising dollars are going by volunteering on different projects within the village.

My philosophy is that everyone has something to give. Our trips enrich the lives of everyone involved, from the volunteers to the people we help. It's truly inspiring to be a part of it.

Adventure Highlights

Angkor Wat Archeological Park

Home to world-famous Angkor Wat, this UNESCO heritage site stretches across more than 400 kilometres squared and contains hundreds of temples and structures dating back to the Khmer Empire era. The most popular are Angkor Wat, Bayon and its multiple faces and root-riddled Ta Prohm, which was the location for parts of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie.

Village Sleep Out

This is one of the most memorable days of the whole trip! It is an experience that is truly once in a lifetime. Staying in a local village is amazing and life-changing.  What you will take home is not only an appreciation of your bed and bathroom facilities but an appreciation of community and village life. This is where you get to communicate without speaking!   As part of a  team, you will be allocated local homes in the village to stay overnight, visit the local market, help prepare an evening meal over an open fire and really immerse yourself in Cambodian family life. The following day is the last day in the village, so you say goodbye to your new family and head up to Siem Reap. What a contrast awaits you!

Restaurants and Food

Food! Truth be told, it really is our number one passion!  Tanya, our Restore One guide and guru, let slip that this is really a 'foodies trip' with a cultural twist and we were hooked.  A lot of the restaurants we visit are part of a charity or social enterprise. Tanya from Restore One calls it “eating with justice”.   What is spent,  goes on giving something much bigger, it goes toward giving to the local community.  We look forward to sharing what these places stand for and what they support while enjoying a fabulous meal, a lot of which are vegetarian but offer some western style food. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The Killing Fields and S21 Memorial

To begin your trip, we take you to where the genocide of Cambodia is remembered. These places give you an understanding of the history of Cambodia and the subsequent poverty that hit. These are emotional places but an essential visit to put everything else in perspective that you see on your trip. (Our village is surrounded by killing fields as well).  You will forever appreciate how extraordinary the always smiling Cambodian people really are.

Building Project

One of many amazing volunteer options during our trip.  Whether you are building at the school or a home for a family, all you need is a good attitude to learn :) Most of the building is with just a hammer and nail.  A lot of people have gone ahead of you with no previous building experience and produced something beautiful. So, turn up with your hat, closed shoes, water bottle and a great attitude. When you leave the village, you'll have left something that lasts and something that will truly change the lives of those that receive. While the project is being carried out during your stay, you get to chat with the villagers and see what their lives are like. If you choose to, this experience can give you lessons that are so big that they will be with you for the rest of your life.

What Past Travelers Have to Say.....

"I embarked on a 2 week trip of a lifetime to Cambodia with Katrina and Sharon from Women Embrace Adventure and 14 other women. The trip was meticulously planned from start to finish. We didn’t have to give our accommodation or food a second thought as this was all arranged by Women Embrace Adventure. We were completely immersed into the Cambodian culture by being educated on the history of the country early on in our visit and subsequently shown how Cambodia is recovering from the atrocities that have occurred to their people and their country. We visited many of Cambodia’s ‘must see’ landmarks and we also were also shown how the local Cambodian people affiliated with the charity, Restore One, are educated and equipped with tools to allow them to make a living without the threat of exploitation. We also visited and worked at a local high school in one of the most impoverished communities within Cambodia and were able to see how education is changing lives. I came away from this trip with an enormous sense of gratitude that I was fortunate enough to share such a life changing adventure with a group of likeminded awesome women. I would highly recommend Women Embrace Adventure to anyone that is considering a trip to Cambodia, it was by far the best travel experience I’ve ever had." - DANIELLE MIZZI

"Literally one of the best adventures of my life! So much fun and laughter ❤️" - NAT HELLYER

"I recently travelled to Cambodia with WEA, I have to say every part of the trip was very well organised.  As a busy mother who works full-time, it was really great for me to be able to turn up at the airport with my passport and visa and know that all the rest was taken care of.  Every day was well planned, there was still free time to do what we wanted, but meals were delicious and organised as were all transport and accommodation arrangements.  I travelled on my own and was paired up with a terrific room mate and the WEA hosts were always around to ensure everyone was having a good time.

This particular trip had a volunteering element and most activities we did had a social justice connection making it a challenging, confronting, rewarding and amazing holiday.  I would highly recommend WEA to other females either travelling on their own or with friends."  - JODIE DELL
