About The Adventure

This hike is a women’s only guided hike along the Wangi Wangi walking track in Wangi Wangi State Conservation Area with your Women Embrace Adventure host leading the way.

About the Hike: The walk is a 7-8km guided walk along the waterfront walking into Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area at Wangi Point. We'll start walking on the waterfront walking path towards Wangi Point then take a peaceful bushwalk through towering forests to the shores of Lake Macquarie on the Wangi circuit walking track, with wonderful scenic views of Pulbah Island, birdwatching and beautiful Lake Macquarie. The serene bushwalk through towering trees gives you the feeling you’re a million miles away from the suburbs, though it’s not far at all. We walk through the Gun Emplacement site at Wangi Wangi which played an important role in Australia's defence system during World War II at a time when invasion from Japan was considered a real possibility. The guns provided anti-aircraft protection for the Rathmines Catalina Sea Plane Base, where many RAAF officers were trained during the course of World War II. The site remains important to the ex-military personnel who trained and served at the base, along with the wider Wangi Wangi community, who regard it as part of their history and heritage. The walk does include a few hills and bush steps along the way. We recommend you have a moderate fitness level to ensure it is an enjoyable walk for you as we are covering quite a distance. Your hosts are wilderness first aid qualified. We will enjoy a delicious homemade morning tea and a hot drink in the park after our walk.
