- 02Our first day on the South West Path! After an early breakfast, we'll collect our packed lunch, and our driver will take us to the trailhead to meet our fantastic hike guide, Steve Crummay, to start our adventure. Section: St Ives to Zennor A 10-12km walk along a stunning coastline with some challenging rocky sections and short steep ups and downs, but all the time punctuated with stunning views of the Atlantic coast. The path is rugged and can be muddy in places after wet weather. We'll break our journey in Zennor for a cuppa, a visit to the plague stone and a wander through the beautiful 12th Century Church. - 03After a leisurely breakfast, we'll head to the Eden Project. Formerly a barren landscape and clay mine, devoid of soil and plants, this small part of Cornwall has been transformed into a beautiful global garden. It sets the stage for an extraordinary day out where you’ll rediscover the natural world as you've never experienced it before. A day at Eden is a real adventure. The indoor Biomes and the gardens outside cover roughly 30 acres and take about four hours to explore. The paths of Eden climb up and down the slopes of the former clay mine, but there are plenty of places to sit and rest on the way. We'll meet for a delicious, sustainably focused lunch. Entry into Eden Project and tour is included in your booking. You'll have some free time in the afternoon and evening to explore St Ives. Optional Extras: Fancy seeing the gardens from above? Catch a Zip Line for a bird' s-eye view! Book at the ticket desk when we arrive, at own cost. Accommodation: Tregenna Castle Resort, twin share Meals: B, L
- 04Today, we'll venture to St Mawes and enjoy the Fal River Walk. This is a lovely Cornish walk along the banks of the Fal River and offers panoramic views over the Fal Esturay. Our destination is Trelissick House, a beautiful National Trust property set on its own peninsula. Trelissick offers woodland walks across open parkland with views down the esturary to the town of Falmouth. Along our walk, we'll explore the meandering paths through the house garden, leading to exotic plants and herbaceous borders bursting with colour. After our walk, we'll be rewarded with a delicious morning tea within the walls of this stately home, where we can immerse ourselves in the property's history. Enjoy a wander through the homes National Trust shop, second-hand bookshop and the beautiful art gallery run by Cornwall Crafts Association, which showcases a wide range of work from local Cornish artists. You'll have some free time in the afternoon and evening to explore St Ives. Walking Distance: approx 6 km Walk Grade: easy Accommodation: Tregenna Castle Resort/twin share Meals: B
- 05We'll head off early to meet our fearless guide for a stunning 14km walk from Land’s End to Porthcurno that visits the most westerly point of England and the iconic pilchard fishing cove of Porthgwarra scene of Ross Poldark’s swimming. This walk has some short, steep ups and downs but stretches of level, easy walking, taking in the granite castles that make up the cliffs here. We'll visit The Minack Theatre, Cornwall's world-famous open-air theater, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay. A place like no other, the world-famous Minack Theater is a must-see for visitors to Cornwall. - 06This morning, we say our goodbyes to Tregenna Castle, meeting at breakfast with our bags packed, ready for our move to lovely Falmouth this afternoon. Well hit the trail with our guide, Steve Crummay, for a 12km hike on the outstanding Lizard peninsula, the most southerly point of mainland Britain, home to unique geology and plant life and the endangered Cornish Chough, a bird of great importance. The walk has some short, steep ups and downs but much level walking and the chance to visit Kynance Cove, where some of the most significant outcrops of Serpentine Rock in the world occur. A cafe on the way provides an opportunity for ice cream! We'll check into our fab new accommodation in Falmouth at St Michaels Resort & Spa this afternoon. After we settle in, we'll meet and head to dinner in this most picturesque village. Hike Distance: 12 km Hike Grade: easy/moderate Accommodation: St Michaels Resort and Spa, twin share Meals: B,L,D
- 07No trip to Cornwall would be complete without a visit to Port Isaac (more commonly known to some as the quaint and quirky village of Port Wenn from the BBC’s Doc Martin, but also the home to Cornwall’s much loved Fisherman’s Friends Movies). Wander down through the village, past the schoolhouse and around the harbour to Doc Martin's home & surgery, before pottering around the local shops. A visit to the local fudge shop is also a chance to step through the doors of Mrs Tishell’s pharmacy. Why not pre-book a spa treatment or class back at St Michaels Resort & Spa (at own expense) or spend the afternoon enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine on the lawn overlooking the sea? Accommodation: St Michaels Resort & Spa, twin share Meals: B
- 08We start today at the Causeway Crossing to St Michaels Mount, a 15-minute walk to our island destination at low tide. Depending on the tides, our return journey may be by boat! We'll make our way into the village and commence the short but very steep climb to the castle; shoes with good tread are a must today! The castle, still owned by the St Aubyn Family, is small but beautiful, with sweeping views of the coastline from the battlements and a not-to-be-missed chapel with stunning stained glass windows. We leave the castle and wind our way through the spectacular tropical gardens with their patchwork of cacti, succulents and interesting plant species. Finish the visit off with a chance for some much-loved gift shopping. Our day doesn’t finish here, though. On our return to the mainland, we will take a short walk into town and visit the much-loved Sea Salt Cornwall, a Cornish fashion company that offers clothing, footwear, and accessories inspired by Cornwall's maritime history and the local landscape. A quick stop at The World's End Bookshop finishes our visit. Tonight's dinner is at Carn Brae Castle, a special treat to be sure! Accommodation: St Michaels Resort & Spa, twin share Meals: B, D https://static.wixstatic.com/media/25cade_8bd550732a6d4526a82849c3b71473b9~mv2.jpeg
- 09Walking through the Cornwall Mining World Heritage Site with a chance to explore the iconic archaeology and hear tales of miners, bal maidens and their extraordinary lives whilst marvelling at the ingenuity involved in getting tin and copper out of the ground from miles out to sea, all the time entertained with stunning Atlantic views. You'll have the late afternoon and evening to enjoy our resort or explore Falmouth. What's a bal maiden? A bal maiden, from the Cornish language bal, a mine, and the English "maiden", a young or unmarried woman, was a female manual labourer working in the mining industries of Cornwall. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/25cade_d4fa051698c3447ab78b80a5bff473b2~mv2.jpg Hike Distance: 12 km Hike Grade: easy/moderate Accommodation: St Michaels Resort & Spa Meals: B, L
- 10After breakfast, we'll join Steve Crummay and head to St Agnes to get a hedgehog at Chapel Porth! Well, first, we'll need to complete the 12 km hike, exploring the coast and St Agnes Beacon. This stunning lookout at 192m elevation offers a fantastic 50 km of view out to sea to the horizon on a clear day. We'll take in panoramic views of the coast and mining landscape of one of the richest mining areas of the 19th century and, of course, a possible “Hedgehog” ice cream at Chapel Porth! Today, the paths are well formed with some steep ups and downs, but the spectacular vistas (and the ice cream) make it all worthwhile! Join us for a pub dinner in Falmouth tonight. Hike Distance: 12 km Hike Grade: moderate Accommodation: St Michael Resort & Spa, twin share Meals: B,L,D
- 11We head a bit inland with Steve Crummay leading us on a day exploring the Moors of West Cornwall, a dramatic change of scenery to that encountered on the coast. Rugged, treeless and striking, this is the backdrop to many typical Cornish views. Get up close and personal with the local flora and fauna with our knowledgable guide as he shares his secret hidey holes, making our way through the moors. We'll explore mysterious Bronze Age and Iron Age Archaeology with time to ponder the secrets of these ancient stones that stand on the lonely moors. Paths can be wet after rain and exposed to the weather, but there is the chance to stand and see Cornwall's north and south coast from these vistas. We'll be back at our accomodation in time for a sunset stroll or a last squizz around town. Hike Distance: 10-12 km Grade: moderate Accommodation: St Michaels Resort & Spa Meals: B, L
- 12After a lovely breakfast, we'll pack our bags and say our goodbyes to St Michaels Resort, pack the van and head toward Axminster, Devon, to visit the famous River Cottage for our private lunch at the farm restaurant. We'll take a comfort break on the 2.5 hr drive, as we make our way east toward our destination. Have a look around the gardens, spy the working farm and see the setting for the British River Cottage television series. The location is stunning, and we look forward to sharing a fantastic lunch with you and reminiscing about all our experiences across Cornwall's width and breadth. Saying goodbye to our travel mates is always hard, but great food and wine will deaden the blow! Transport/train options are a short uber ride away to start your journey home or continue your explorations. Meals: B, L
