About The Adventure

Nothing wrecks a great adventure faster than sore, blistered feet! Oh and a sprained ankle?! Most of us have experienced these at some point or another; the new whiz-bang boots or joggers are supposed to be the best you can buy but by the end of the day, your feet are killing you. The good news is with proper care, some education and shoe selection you don't have to suffer. Your feet and body should not hurt all the time!

Women Embrace Adventure has partnered with some crazy smart professionals  (Podiatrist Blake Withers and Physiotherapist Kelly Kortick) whose passion for women's health and well being matches ours. They've invited us into their gym at MacDonald Jones Stadium for a presentation and question/answer session. They have awesome information to share with us all!

While we're there we'll enjoy a boxed lunch, some famous homemade goodies with coffee & tea.

About our experts:

Blake is a lecturer, researcher and educator at the University of Newcastle. He works at Achieve Podiatry with several Sports Doctors and Physicians. His passion is helping active people who want to continue to be healthy and happier on their feet. He will be discussing footwear and blister prevention in the first half and how to manage all things foot and ankle. He’ll then discuss some common issues that he sees regularly in the clinic and how we can avoid them so we can keep doing all the things we love!

Kelly is a Physiotherapist at Newcastle Performance Physio in Hamilton Newcastle who works with athletes and active people. She specializes in Women's Health and regularly presents on how to manage our bodies well as we age. Kelly will discuss all things related to women's health, bodies and much more.

The term ‘Age-related Change’ is used to describe pain, injury and emotional states regularly in our bodies. This creates the harmful idea that we are all doomed to endure pain and discomfort as we age. The good news is, that doesn't have to be the case.

Bodies change, that's the reality, but there is lots of research showing how we can be resilient and even more capable at any age. It’s all about understanding the body, knowing the changes that occur and turning those into strengths.

The body is able to build endurance, strength and capacity for all activities from running to walking to hiking at any age. With the right tools, education and determination, injury and pain can be avoided.

We hope you can join us for this informative, interactive presentation.
