About The Adventure

Join WEA in Shoal Bay Port Stephens for a full day of adventure, fun and laughter.

We will start the day with an invigorating walk to the summit of Tomaree Head, 161m above the Port Stephens entrance. As we hike the track, we will enjoy unparalleled views of idyllic Port Stephens and its coastline. Although not a long walk there are a lot of stairs and will be sure to get your heart pumping. At the summit, we will enjoy panoramic views of Yacaaba Head, Cabbage Tree, Boondelbah and Broughton Islands from the north platform. From the south platform, views of Zenith, Wreck and Box Beaches, Fingal Island and Point Stephens Lighthouse will be sure to impress. Fingers crossed we are lucky enough to see some dolphins swimming in the waves at Zenith Beach.

Time for some morning tea before we set off on our kayak eco-adventure where we go beyond the boundaries and discover all the horizons of Port Stephens, looking out for dolphins and other wildlife along the way. This experience highlights the natural beauty of Port Stephens in a way that does not disrupt the local ecosystem. We will kayak the beautiful water of Port Stephens for approximately 2.5 hours on double sit-on-top kayaks.

Once we have finished Kayaking take a dip in the beautiful Shoal Bay if you like. We will then finish our day with lunch at Shaol Bay Country Club. We will share pizzas and a bottle or two of wine to celebrate our fantastic day of adventure.

How fit do I need to be?

Although you do not have to have any Kayak or hiking expereince we do ask that you have a moderate level of fitness due to the nature of this adventure. The hike although only 5kms and around 2.2kms from the bottom return is graded hard due to the incline of the climb. While kayaking we will be wearing life jackets but we do ask that you are able to swim a distance of 50 meters unaided to be able to participate in this adventure. Our attitude is that it's your day, and we will walk and paddle at a speed YOU are comfortable with and have rest stops as often as YOU like.

Do I need experience?

Definitely not! We give you a comprehensive briefing before the tour on equipment use, safety and what to expect while on the tour. We also offer tips to improve your technique while kayaking to make things easier and more enjoyable for you while on the tour.

How many women will be on this adventure?

We like to keep things quite small and intimate at Women Embrace Adventure to offer you a supportive and friendly environment. Generally, there are 10-14 people on an adventure plus your guide and hosts.

Am I going to get wet?

Yes  - you will get some paddle splash as you paddle along, and you will get wet feet getting in and out of the kayak, but generally that will be all (unless you fall in - this doesnt happen often OR want to go for a swim - this does happen often))

I'll be coming on my own, is that ok?

Not a problem at all!  Lots of women come on their own to our adventures. Your Women Embrace Adventure host will make sure everyone is introduced before we set off on this beautiful kayak. We always have lots of fun, there is no pressure, no judgment, and lots of encouragement from everyone.  By the end of the adventure, you may have just found some new adventure friends!

Will bad weather conditions affect my tour?

Wet weather will generally not cause the cancellation of a kayak adventure, in fact, some of the best paddling conditions are in the rain. Wind, on the other hand, can cause cancellations. If the wind is strong enough to be a potential safety risk, we will contact you in the days before the tour to discuss your options.  Cancellations that are made due to weather conditions made by Women Embrace Adventure are entitled to a full refund, or we can transfer your booking to another day.
