Women Embrace Hiking Piles Creek Loop

This short but challenging walk has it all – waterfalls, river crossings, caves, old growth eucalypt forest and best of all….a suspension bridge! Before we set off we will have a cuppa with some homemade goods in the park.

About The Adventure

Join us to explore a popular area of Brisbane Water National Park on our Women Embrace Piles Creek Hike!  On this challenging and interesting hike, we’ll pass waterfalls, jump over rivers, take in the vista of the valley from Illoura lookout, pass through gorgeous eucalypt forests and cross a suspension bridge!  We hope you can join us.

Meeting Time:  10:00 am for 10:15 start

Fitness Level: A moderate to high level of fitness is required 

Meeting Point: Picnic area at the end of Girrakool Road, Somersby. ( exact meeting point will be sent to you via text the week before the event)

Experience: Some bushwalking experience recommended. You must have a moderate fitness level and be comfortable walking on rough terrain with steps and steep inclines and descents.

About the Walk: This walk is rated Grade 5.  We’ll walk 5-6kms over uneven ground with many steps.  This trail can be slippery when wet, even after light rain.

Toilets: There are toilets at the start (and finish) of the walk.

Car Parking: There is a car park at the beginning of the walk. This usually fills up quickly on nice days, and overflow parking is used along the side of the entry road.  National Park entrance fees apply – if you don’t have a National Parks annual pass, you can purchase a day pass at the machines in the car park for $8.

How fit do I need to be? This bush walk covers moderate to hard  levels of terrain. Mational Parks classes this as a greade 5 with some steep sections, uneven ground and stairs.  No one gets left behind, with two Women Embrace Adventure guides at this event we will have one at the front and one at the end to support all walkers.  This trail is not handicapped accessible and not pet-friendly.

What do I need to bring?

-day pack (to carry your personal belongings)

-wear hiking boots, sturdy joggers or trail runners

-sunscreen and sun protective clothing


-bug spray

-any personal medications you may need (asthma puffer/epi-pen etc)

-waterproof jacket (in case of cold/ wet weather)

-an extra warm layer in case of cold/windy weather

-at least 2 litres of water 

I'll be coming on my own, is that ok?  

Not a problem at all!  Lots of women come on their own to our adventures. Your Women Embrace Adventure host will make sure everyone meets before we set off on our walk. We always have lots of fun, there is no pressure, no judgment, and lots of encouragement from everyone. By the end of the walk you may have just found some new adventure friends!

How many will be on our bushwalk?  We keep our adventures quite personal. On this adventure there will be no more than 12 women your plus your WEA guides.
